I will be 58 in August. This year, it adds a special bit to already blessed life as I post this as I am four weeks (this is June) from open heart surgery and four bypasses! How did I show up for this? 15 years of changes in behavior, listening to my body, and knowing the signs of a heat attack got me to self advocate at work one day, and the love and support of my family and colleagues, ems at nhrmc Novant, Dr. Peter Kane, and all the medical staff and nurses, and the advances in care from the heart associaion! I have been with the Heart Walk since 2008! Wow! But since 2009, the walk and the Heart AssociatIon have helped to transform my life. I come with heart disease and stroke so prevalent in my family and friends. I have had ups and downs in my journey, But I have been consistent in learning and being equipped. I am a survivor. I want us all to have this!

While I know that things are never perfect, this was the start of a journey for me that has led to a life I cannot imagine. Had I not walked in a heart walk, had i not met this message here, I woudl not be running, whole food plant based and living the life I am living today. I am forever grateful.
