At just 2 months old, my daughter, Amori, fell very ill with Kawasaki Disease in February of 2006. Due to an elevated temperature, she sustained 7 coronary aneurysms that, until recently, should be controllable by medications. The words from her doctor haunted our family for years, "Just enjoy every day you have with her because we just don't know."
In July of 2023, she had to undergo a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) after her cardiology requested extra testing be done for "peace of mind". We are forever grateful for that decision because those tests showed that she had a 75-90% blockage in her Left Anterior Descending artery, more commonly known as the "widow maker".
Thanks to an overly cautious cardiologist, quick action from teams across the world, and an exceptional surgeon at Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX, our daughter is here today. She's happy and healthy and, though she will always be a cardiac patient, she'll be able to live her life as any young teenager should!
