Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) is the most common birth defect, affecting 1 in 100 births in the US per year. 

 

In March of 2024, our precious miracle baby girl, Palmer Elizabeth, was born with a rare form of CHD, a right-sided interrupted aortic arch with a large VSD. Palmer was only the 8th baby at UAB/ Children's in the last 20 years to have this specific combination of heart defects. Because her CHD required a unique surgical technique, her surgical team at Children's of Alabama did extensive research and planning in preparation for her open heart surgery. At 5 days old, Palmer's team was able to perform life saving open heart surgery. 

It is our belief that because of donations such as yours that fund pertinent research and medical care, Palmer was able to receive the highest quality of care during her time at Children's.  

Palmer is now a thriving 11 month old baby girl. She is the happiest, sweetest baby and is the light of our lives. We will forever be a part of the heart community and couldn't be more thankful for our little CHD warrior.
