We Walk to Save Lives!
Experiencing high blood pressure during my pregnancy was a pivotal moment for me. This condition, known as preeclampsia, not only posed immediate challenges but also increased my long-term risk of heart disease. Research indicates that women who have had preeclampsia are three to four times more likely to develop high blood pressure and have double the risk for heart disease and stroke later in life.
Adding to these personal health concerns, my six-month-old son, Sam, was born with a patent foramen ovale (PFO), a small opening in the heart that didn't close naturally after birth. While many PFOs are harmless and often require no treatment, in rare cases, they can lead to complications.
We remain hopeful that Sam's PFO will resolve on its own, but if intervention becomes necessary, the advancements in medical research funded by organizations like the American Heart Association (AHA) will guide his treatment.
The AHA's commitment to funding research and promoting heart health has a direct impact on families like mine. By supporting their initiatives, we contribute to life-saving research and the development of treatments that can make a profound difference in the lives of those affected by heart conditions.
I am walking to save lives—not just for my own health and my son's future, but for all families facing similar challenges. Your support can help turn bystanders into lifesavers, fund critical research, and provide hope to countless individuals.
