This will be my 9th "in person" walk, with me supporting heart walks all over the country, over the past 15 years (sometimes a "virtual walker" cause of work schedules). The most memorable Heart Walk was in 2020 when a group of us gathered at Disney to participate in their virtual walk and took many steps that day while wearing AHA shirts.
Heart attacks and blockages run high in our family, from my grandfather to my uncles to my mom; and I am at high risk due to familial hyperlipidemia. I walk to help support not only the importance of teaching heart health, hands-only CPR, and community AED's but also to support the continued research that AHA does to help understand how to help people with heredity issues and how our environment affects our health. I try to do my part in assisting my community, by being a cardiac nurse since the day I started nursing school, all the way through to my current roll with the Chest Pain and Stroke Centers.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this. ?
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death. ?
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.?
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today.?
