As many of you know, I was diagnosed with a heart condition at age 5 that I knew could require surgery "one day." When I made a New Year's resolution in December of 2021 to focus on better self-care, I had no idea how quickly that would take on a new meaning when I went to my yearly cardiologist visit in January of 2022. I learned that "one day" was coming sooner than I thought. Fast forward to more tests and a consult with the surgeon later and on March 3, 2022 I had open heart surgery.
While it was ultimately the scariest thing I have ever been through, I couldn't be more thankful to organizations like the American Heart Association and donations like yours for providing the necessary research to what years ago could have been a life ending diagnosis, to one that had me up and walking within 24 hrs of surgery.
Walking has always been and will always be one of my favorite forms of self-care. Sadly I will be out of town for the walk this year, but will be walking from afar and encourage anyone in the Charlotte area to join the walk on Saturday, September 27th at Romare Bearden Park if you're able!
If you are not local, please consider donating. Your donations fund groundbreaking research that keep hearts beating and help people like myself enjoy longer, healthier lives.
Have a heart and help me reach my goal today! THANK YOU!!
