I SUPPORT THIS EVENT BECAUSE THE WORK SAVES LIVES!
Friends...earlier in the year I was asked to join the Leadership Team for the 2025 Heart Walk. I've had the priveledge of supporting this event for the last 7 years or so, personally and in my role with Dewberry.
I had no idea when I took on this role what a journey this year would be with regards to my loved ones and their heart journeys. Most of you know my husband suffers from congenital heart disease and atrial fibrillation. Larry went back into AFIB and needed yet another ablation. Technologies continue to advance and he was able to receive the Pulsed Field Ablation in March! His cardiologist is encouraged that we reached areas that have not been impacted before. Before this technology he has been needing interventions every 18- 24 months... Larry does this without "looking sick" nor do folks know his maintenance medicines make him feel terrible - yet we are grateful to have the problems he has, especially given the alternatives. Our count for him is now ... 2 open heart surgeries, 5 or 6 catheter ablations (depends on whether we count the maze procedure) , 3 cardio-versions and a pacemaker installation,- next year we will get a new pacemaker!
My dear ole Dad recently gave us quite the scare and in late May had a heart attack with a 90% blockage on his coronary artery - the widowmaker. Open Heart Surgery was successfully performed at Thomas Hospital and he has been released for recovery! We thought we had avoided Open Heart Surgery because in May 2021, my dad was diagnosed with severe atrial stenosis and required a valve replacement. Fortunately, the medical marvels of heart research provided him the opportunity to have the less invasive TAVR procedure.
As if that wasn't enough of a reason, I lost my mom in 2017 to congestive heart failure.
These medical marvels and research is why I am raising money for the American Heart Association and will be walking at OWA on October 25th. Please consider supporting our Daphne Dewberry Team.
