When Alyssa was born, her tiny heart had two big challenges, an ASD and a VSD. At just 4 months old, she underwent open-heart surgery at Shands in Gainesville.
Her journey wasn't easy she spent a total of 6 months in the NICU, fighting with strength far greater than her size. But today, Alyssa is thriving. She's grown into a bright, determined young girl who reminds us every day why research, awareness, and support for heart health matters so deeply.
This year, Alyssa is proud to join the Shands Emergency Department team, the very hospital where her story began for the AHA Heart Walk. Walking alongside her is a powerful reminder of how far she's come and how many more families we can help by supporting this cause.
Every step we take and every dollar we raise is for kids like Alyssa and for every heart that deserves a chance to heal.
