Survivor Story: Living with Congestive Heart Failure and Rising Again
I never imagined that an allergic reaction to an IV medication would change my life forever. What was supposed to be a simple medical procedure turned into a fight for survival. The medication triggered a severe allergic reaction that caused my body to go into shock?and in the midst of it, I suffered a stroke. When I finally opened my eyes, I learned that the reaction had also led to congestive heart failure. No one had warned me about the dangers or possible side effects, and that lack of information nearly cost me my life.
Recovery wasn?t easy. I had to relearn strength, faith, and patience. Living with congestive heart failure means adapting to a new normal?watching what I eat, managing stress, taking medication daily, and staying committed to a heart-healthy lifestyle. Each day is a blessing, a chance to keep my heart strong and my spirit even stronger.
My journey taught me that awareness saves lives. Nine out of ten people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital do not survive?and most of those deaths happen because no one nearby knows CPR. We can change that. Cardiac arrests happen in homes, workplaces, and communities everywhere, and readiness can mean the difference between life and death.
That?s why I?m fundraising?to help train more people in lifesaving CPR, to support research, and to ensure others don?t face the same unpreparedness I did. Every dollar brings hope, awareness, and another chance at life.
I am living proof that miracles happen. Though my heart has endured its battles, it continues to beat with purpose?to inspire others to live healthy, stay informed, and become lifesavers in their communities.
Together, we can heal hearts?and save them.
