First and foremost, thank you for being here. If you're reading this, I hope you truly know how valued and incredible you are.
This past September, I lost my dad, Gary, on his 60th Birthday to sudden cardiac arrest while he was spending time doing something he loved, out on the water, about to catch the biggest fish he has ever caught. The Lord called him to Heaven before he could cast his line into the ocean. Sudden and without warning - a moment that shifted everything. Connor and I were with him and did everything we could, including CPR, but sometimes, even when we act fast, the outcome is out of our hands.
That's the hard truth about sudden cardiac arrest. It's not the same as a heart attack. It comes without warning, and it's often fatal even when help is right there. But that doesn't mean we stop trying. Because sometimes, action can make all the difference.
I walk in memory of my dad to honor his life, and to help others be ready to save one. I walk to raise awareness about CPR, AEDs, and what it means to be prepared. Because someone else's loved one might still have a chance - and we can be the reason they do.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital don't survive. In most cases, bystander CPR wasn't performed. But we can change that.
Cardiac arrests happen at home, at work, on sports fields, and in everyday places and the readiness of our community can mean the difference between life and death.
Now is the time to take action. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, helps fund:
-
CPR and AED training in our communities,
-
Life-saving research,
-
Greater access to tools and resources,
-
And more lives saved.
I walk to save lives in memory of our dad, Gary, and in hope that someone else's story ends differently.
Please consider joining our team or making a donation toward our goal. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
