At 26 weeks pregnant with my daughter, Adelyn, the full anatomy ultrasound identified multiple cardiac defects and bilateral UTD P1 hydronephrosis. Due to the nature of her condition my OB/GYN had to transfer mine and Adelyn's care to Vanderbilt from Centennial so their pediatric cardiology team could start monitoring to determine next steps. After meeting with Dr. Carlos Miguel Mery at Vanderbilt Children's Heart Institute, an official diagnosis from the Fetal echo demonstrated double outlet RV with side-by-side great arteries and the aorta to the right of the PA with a large VSD. For the next 13 weeks she and I had weekly appointments with the cardiology and high-risk labor and delivery team at Vanderbilt to ensure her growth and development stayed on track and no additional issues arose. On March 17th, 2025 Adelyn Ruth was born and spent the next two weeks in the Vanderbilt NICU. The cardio team determined on day three she was eligible to postpone her heart surgery until she is 6 months by administering a PDA stent in her pulmonary artery to increase the oxygenated blood flow. On March 20th, 2025, she underwent the PDA stent placement in the cath lab with Dr. Janssen. As of right now the cardiology team is looking at mid September for surgical repair likely with Nikaidoh (VSD closure baffled to the aortic valve with placement of an RV-PA conduit).
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
