At the age of 19 I had my SCA while 8 weeks pregnant with my first child. At that time is when they discovered I had a heart condition called Long Qt Syndrome. All through high school I had been having seizure like episodes with no medical explanation as to what was causing them and due to my age regardless of my symptoms they didn't connect it to my heart or think to send me to a cardiologist. I spent 8 days in ICU recovering from my SCA and my AICD implant. I'm now on my 4th device and my son who survived with me just turned 21. I also have a 17 year old. I work in cardiology as a medical assistant and spread awareness about my condition and the importance of knowing CPR.
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today.
