2026 Birmingham Heart Walk
Rhonda & The Heartbeats
Here’s a summary of Rhonda’s story:
On Friday, October 26, 2018, Rhonda Meadows underwent a routine cardiac arteriogram (coronary angiogram). During the procedure, physicians discovered severe blockages in four coronary arteries and immediately scheduled her for a quadruple bypass (CABG) open-heart surgery; a critical, often life-saving operation that creates new pathways for blood to flow around blocked arteries. The procedure was halted, and the surgical team quickly moved forward, admitting her directly to the hospital as the first surgical case on Monday, October 29, 2018.
Rhonda made a remarkable recovery and continues to do exceptionally well. Although she was diagnosed with coronary artery disease (CAD), timely testing and swift medical intervention allowed for a full recovery and a return to an active life. Today, she remains committed to her health by faithfully attending cardiology appointments and carefully following her physicians’ recommendations.
