2026 Lowcountry Heart Walk
Baby James
In Memory of James McCormack
In early 2021, we learned we were expecting our second child and were excited to grow our family. At our anatomy scan, we received the devastating news that our baby had a rare and severe congenital heart defect-an unbalanced AV canal/single ventricle condition. After months of appointments, consultations, and difficult conversations, our son, James, was born on August 11, 2021.
James was a fighter. Though his condition was not survivable, we were given the unexpected gift of bringing him home, where he spent his four days surrounded by love-with his parents, his big sister Maeve, and our family. James passed away peacefully in our arms on August 15, 2021.
We walk in James's memory to honor his life, however brief, and to raise awareness for congenital heart disease, which impacts far too many children and families. Through the Heart Walk, we hope to support continued research, advocacy, and care for those facing CHD, and to honor the strength of every child and family on this journey.
