2026 CSRA Heart Walk
Karson's Patrol
Meet Karson. He's 1. He loves cake, chasing his big sister, and keeping his parents on their toes.
He also happens to be the son of one of our NICU nurses.
A year ago, Karson was born and spent his first days fighting harder than most of us ever will. At just seven days old, he underwent open heart surgery. His chest was left open for 48 hours. His mother, our coworker and friend, spent those two days watching his heartbeat, waiting for the moment the surgeons could close him up.
She is a nurse who has spent her career caring for fragile babies. But in that room, she wasn't a nurse. She was just a mom, and she was terrified.
But Karson is resilient. He crushed every doctor's appointment, every milestone, every obstacle in his path, and a few months ago, he celebrated his first birthday eating birthday cake, giggling, thriving, exactly where he belongs.
Our team is Karson's Wrecking Crew.
We are his mother's teammates. Labor & Delivery, Mother-Baby, and NICU staff who spend our shifts caring for families on their best days and their hardest ones. But this walk is personal.
We walk for Karson.
We walk for the 1 in 100 babies born with congenital heart defects and for their families.
And we walk so that more heart warriors get to smash cake, chase siblings, and grow up doing big, big things.
