Why I Walk
I walk in honor of my mother, Victoria Olivo, affectionately known as "Amparo."
My mother was an incredibly strong woman. In 2001, she suffered three strokes that caused significant damage and left her having to relearn how to speak, eat, and walk. Through determination and strength, she overcame tremendous challenges and regained much of what she had lost.
Nineteen years later, in December 2020, she suffered another stroke following what was expected to be a non-life-threatening procedure. Sadly, this stroke was one she could not recover from, and we lost her.
I walk to honor her memory and her strength. I also walk for other family members, friends, and countless individuals affected by heart disease and stroke. Through continued research, education, and awareness, we can help save lives and give more families hope.
