My "why" is personal. My dad had his first cardiac intervention when he was only 40 years old. Nearly four decades later, he underwent a quadruple bypass.
What made his experience especially eye-opening for me was that my dad did so many of the things we're told to do. He worked hard in the gym, stayed compliant with his medications, and took his health seriously-yet heart disease was still part of his story. His resilience through it all, and his unwavering commitment to his family, have been an inspiration to me.
His journey taught me that prevention matters, but biological and hereditary factors matter too. It's never too early to know your numbers, make healthy lifestyle choices, ask questions, and be proactive with your physician.
That is why I'm participating in the 2026 Volusia-Flagler Heart Walk. I want to raise awareness, bring our community together, and support those affected by heart disease-and the people who care for them.
Most importantly, I want others to take their heart health seriously.
Don't ignore the subtle signs. Know your numbers. Ask questions. Be proactive.
