Heart disease is not just a statistic in my life.

Five years ago, heart disease robbed me of precious time I should still be spending with my Daddy. He meant the world to me, and not a day goes by that I don't miss him. Losing him left a void that can never be filled. His memory is one of the reasons I continue to support the fight against heart disease and stroke.

As a heart disease survivor myself, I know firsthand how precious life is and how important awareness, prevention, research, and treatment can be. I have experienced both the heartbreak of loss and the blessing of a second chance.

Every step I take during this year's American Heart Association Heart Walk on November 7th is for my Daddy. It's for my family. It's for every person currently fighting heart disease, every survivor grateful for one more day, and every family praying for more time with the people they love.
