On the evening of May 16, 2026 our Abby collapsed at the Port Orleans resort at Walt Disneyworld. She had a history of myocarditis when she was 18 years old that we thought had resolved. She was an avid runner and cyclist before she had her children and continued to be active after they were born. After she died we learned through her autopsy and a genetic test a cardiologist at Wake Med in Raleigh performed on her  sister that Abby and her sisters have a desmoplakin gene variant that predisposes them to cardiac arrythmias and inflamation in the heart that causes scar tissue that can lead to heart failure. On October 3rd we will be walking in the Triad Heart Walk, Fearless for Abby, in hopes that raising awareness of this condition will lead to research to save others.
