This year holds special meaning to me as a CHD Heart Warrior - on July 24, 2026 I had my 3rd open heart surgery & valve replacement! My incredible surgeon is also an AHA Fellow, and because of the work the AHA has done been since my 2nd surgery 14 years ago (2012), I am here to walk for my 15th year in a row!

My incredible surgeon is also an AHA Fellow, and because of the work the AHA has done been since my 2nd surgery 14 years ago (2012), I am here to walk for my 15th year in a row!
I am a proud THREE time survivor of a CHD - congenital heart defect. I had my first open heart surgery at 10 months old, and my second at 24 years old, and my third just a few months ago at 4 days shy of my 39th birthday. I have a new bovine prosthetic aortic valve and a new tricuspid ring, and have learned how to maximize my life as I can, affectionately calling it Lauren Normal!
The research and support provided by the AHA continues to have a direct impact on my life and through my participation in Heart Walk I hope to promote fun ways to be physically active and make healthier choices every day.
The scope of the AHA is expansive - impacting research on CHDs, heart disease and heart attack prevention, and stroke prevention and education. Together, we can make healthier, longer lives possible for everyone.
