I walk for my son and I who have a skin disease called Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Our specific gene type shows an increased incidence of cardiomyopathy. I had been asymptomatic, but was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy when I was three months pregnant with my son, Brooks. My life has changed drastically since then, but I am fortunate to have excellent physicians and effective medications that allow me to chase after my active toddler. Heart disease runs strong though my family as well. I walk also in honor of my dad and in memory of my grandfather, aunt and uncle, who all lost their lives to heart disease at an early age.
