Help me be a Heart Walk Hero!
My husband Chris was affected with heart disease in his early 50s. (he gave me permission to share his story). He exercised often, managed his weight, ate well some of the time, but genetics decided to roar it's ugly head at an unexpected time in his life. During a bike ride, he experienced one of the classic anginal signs of chest pain and described to me "I fell like someone is squeezing my heart". Little did he know his heart was 95% blocked in 4 places. Given the decision of Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery or stent placement, he opted for the latter. Dr. Garas at St. Vincent's Heart & Vascular Center provided the expertise he needed! He will be on antiplatelet medication long term to keep those stents open. Chris is one of the lucky ones. He exercises daily, packs a healthy lunch daily, lowered stress in his life, and never misses a dose of his medications. He could still be at a crossroad again in his life so it's important to him and my family to participate in the American Heart Walk campaign. My team at work is raising money so patients like Chris can get the latest and greatest cure for a disease he didn't choose. Do your heart some good and please make a donation today!
