When I was 44 years old, I was still running 6 minute miles and thought I was very healthy. but back in November 2006, I had a rude awakening. I had just run a 5k race in 18:23 but something didn't feel quite right. So, I decided to see a Doctor who had me do a stress test. After the stress test, the Doctor told me he thought I had a blockage and I couldn't believe it. That event led to a series of tests and eventually a trip to the catheterization lab at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Thankfully, the blockage was discoverd and a stent emplaced which prevented me from having a heart attack. I later discoverd that the American Heart Association (AHA) funds research for the advancement of stent technology so when I was approached about becoming a member of the Huntsville Heart Walk Executive Leadership Team (ELT), I immediately said "Yes!" I'm proud of the work that AHA does to support research and I'm proud to be a part of efforts to raise money for that research. I ask that you please join me in the fight against Heart Disease and Strokes and remember; Life is why we walk.
