He is my why....many of you knew dad (Oompa to ‘his girls’) and know he lost a short battle with a glioblastomia in August 2019....August 3 at 4:37am to be exact. What some of you did not know is that dad also had A-Fib. It was a secondary finding during a routine procedure, but it impacted his day-to-day life nonetheless. He went from taking one medication a day, to a handful of pills multiple times a day. He had to alter his diet. He had to travel to AU from Evans weekly to get his coumdin levels checked. It altered SO much of his day-to-day life, yet he never complained. He just did it. About a year or so into this journey, he was offered the opportunity to be part of a research study at AU. It would allow him to get a heart ablation to hopefully correct his a-fib. And it worked!!! It changed his medication load back to a couple pills a day AND his diet was not as strict....which for those who knew dad, you know food was his love language. This picture was taken as he was leaving the hospital after that ablation. During his pre-op call, he asked the nurse if he should bring anything special to wear home. Since it was the holidays, she laughed and said they always enjoy a festive sweatshirt. Always the jokestar, that is what dad wore when he was discharged...with fun socks to boot.
My personal fundraising goal is $500. I am SO close to meeting this goal. Please consider make a donation on behalf of dad. This simple procedure changed his life and I know he would love knowing it changed the lives of others too. All the money that is raised by me will stay locally here at AU.
