While the word heart is in the name, the AHA is actually about helping live longer, healthier lives. Because, after all, it's all tied together. I am type 2 diabetic. I was pre-diabetic for years but stress tipped the scales..the stress of when I lost my sister to cancer, the most beautiful soul I've ever known. The stress of my mother sliding into dementia and worrying about my dad. So I became diabetic.
I know with all my heart that stress is a killer and in many ways. I walk because I believe that helping peole live longer, healthier lives is the most important thing we can do. We have all lost people too soon. We all know people who are struggling with long term illness or disabilities. The AHA is the biggest researcher on this behind the federal government. It goes beyond heart, and stroke, and the obvious. The AHA researches diabetes, and the effects of stress, and obesity, and just about anything you can think of. What could be more worthy.
