This is why I will walk.
I began participating in Relay for Life after my father passed away from cancer. What are the odds that I would be diagnosed with breast cancer the summer after I participated in that first relay. I went through 6 months of chemotherapy and 33 radiation treatments. Little did I know that the very drug that saved my life the first time, would later try to kill me another way 12 years later. I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and heart failure in September 2019. I was told I have an enlarged heart, leaking valve, a significant blood clot in the heart and nothing could be done for me locally. I would need a heart transplant and begin seeing specialists. Five months later, I am defying what I was told and have made strong improvements. Medicine, diet, and exercise have helped make the improvements but more importantly God is what has brought me to this point.
I am going to walk because I know with every step I am making a difference in someone's life. Combined with a million other Heart Walk Heros across the nation, we have an even greater impact on curing heart disease and stroke. Will you be a Heart Walk Hero with me?
