Hey, Y'all!
Thank you so much for showing interest in the American Heart Association, and making a difference in our community!
To those who are not aware, my name is Leah Tolan! I am a 25-year-old research specialist and graduate student at the University of South Carolina. I am currently a part of the USC Psychology Department's School Behavioral Health Team on the Clinical Mental Health Track.
At 21 I was diagnosed with Brady-tachycardia, following a pacemaker implant. With no genetic history for either condition and being physically active, it came as a shock for everyone. After my diagnoses, reoccurring cardiology visits, and constant restrictions, I began to realize that anyone could be at risk.
Women's passion has made history … but their actual hearts haven't. Heart disease and stroke have never been just men's diseases, but through the years women have been left out of scientific studies. By encouraging your community to make systemic changes in projects like Go Red For Women, those actions will make a global IMPACT!
