Heart disease is very personal for me. My father passed away at the age of 74 from neglecting his health and contracting heart disease. His experience gave me the incentive to be very diligent about my health. Seemingly not a day goes by when we are not confronted with the impact of heart disease either in our workplace or where we live. We are fortunate to have great medical care for children in Charleston at MUSC and their impact on pediatric heart disease is amazing. MUSC is a big beneficiary of the research dollars generated by the Heart Walk. The good news about heart disease is that we can favorably impact it through intelligent lifestyle change and being vigilant about monitoring our health.
