Recently I had a health scare when I started experiencing chest pain. I thought I was having a heart attack, or something was wrong with my heart. I went to see my doctor immediately and ended up in the emergency room. Luckily for me, it was not a heart attack, but I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I took some antibiotics, and I am much better now.
This event got me thinking about how out of shape I am and the poor choices I have made about my health in the past. After further reflection, I decided to try and make some lifestyle changes to improve my situation. One of the biggest changes I am trying to make is to exercise regularly and the best way for me to get started is walking. When I got an email about the upcoming Heart Walk to support the American Heart Association, I thought this would be a good way to motivate me to get started exercising.
So after speaking with some co-workers, we have formed a team and are raising funds at a furious pace. Our team is open to anyone who wants to join and support this great cause. Even if you don’t want to join, please consider donating to the AHA. The life you save may be your own.
I am walking in this event as a tribute to my late father, Larry A. Jelley. My dad suffered a heart attack and stroke in the hospital after a routine medical procedure and passed away soon afterward. This walk is for you Dad!
