Shortly after the 2016 Heart Walk, my mother-in-law suffered from a near fatal heart attack. She woke up in the middle of the night with projectile vomiting. She knew immediately that she needed to go to the hospital. Once we arrived, the Dr. examined her and informed us that a stent could be put in place to open up the artery.
Unfortunately it was not that simple. When they started to put the stent in, they noticed the artery was 99% of the way blocked. The Dr. returned with the news and informed us that she would need bypass surgery in order to save her life. Not just a bypass or a double bypass, but a triple bypass, the worst news you could possibly get. I started to freak out and I told myself," What!! Ok, ok, ok! Try not to panic because everything will be fine. Try not to think about what could happen... just Trust HIM!"
At that very moment, I started to pray intensely, because I had only met my mother-in-law in 2015 and through the time that I had known her, I discovered what a wonderful Godly woman she is. I could see Christ through her and I wanted to learn more. I knew that I was still growing in Christ and I wanted my relationship with Him to resemble the one she had with Him. I asked God to please not take away such a woman of inspiration. I thanked him for giving her to me because I can look to her and grow spiritually just by watching her. I asked God to bring her though surgery and recovery, so that I could continue to grow closer to Him.
After hours of surgery and months of recovery, I am blessed to say that I still have my mother-in-law.
During that year after our experience, I heard of other individuals that had a heart attack and had to undergo surgery, however, they were not so fortunate and the surgery was unsuccessful.
Imagine the impact if we reduce death and disability from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent by 2020. Please help me reach this lifesaving goal by donating today. Together, we can make healthier, longer lives possible for everyone.
