I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives, including my own. In 2022, I became a "Long Covid" symptom patient after being diagnosed with Left and Right sided Heart Failure following my first bout with Covid. It took a few follow up visits with my cardiologist before I built up enough courage to ask my him to predict my life expectancy. I knew the stage of Heart Failure I was in, and knew that the answer he would probably give me would be a hard number to hear. Thankfully, through scientific break throughs in medications, the answer I was expecting changed to "with Farxiga and Entresto now having such good results Amanda, we don't know that answer anymore". He went on to explain that due to imagination with innovative technology and therapies, heart failure is no longer an immediately fatal diagnosis.
These medications happened because of people like the American Heart Association putting financial funding to support scientific research. I use these medications to have a normal life, to have energy to get up and go to a job where I get to take care of others, and to actually be hopeful that I have a future that I get to share with my husband and family.
