As a mother of a son born with congenital heart disease, I am walking to support research, funding, and professional education. All of these things are possible through the American Heart Association's contributions. If it were not for my son's pediatrician taking special care during his routine physical to really listen to his heart sounds, my son's condition may have gone unnoticed until it was too late.
The cardiologist was confident in the treatment plan, none of us thought it would be unsuccessful, but we had to regroup and start over with a new plan. I am forever grateful for the skilled hands of Dr. Bleiweis who was able to employ another method for repair. Research and development are necessary for alternate treatments.
