At just 22 weeks pregnant, i was given the heart-wrenching news that my baby was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect (Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome). They induced labor at 37 weeks. At 5 days old. Paisley went through her first open heart surgery (Norwood). We stayed in the hospital for a few weeks and were discharged home. At 5 months, we went back for her second heart surgery (Glenn) and a few short days after that, we had a g-tube put in. We have been home and thriving since. We have our final surgery set for the summer of 2026, just right before she ventures in to kindergarten.
Being pregnant and receiving this news made it extremely difficult to plan. Most parents buy all the clothes and blankets. I couldn't bring myself to "nest" I was terrified of the chances of not getting to bring my baby girl home (as this is a reality for a lot of parents of children with this condition)
But, here we are, 4 years later and i have one sassy, beautiful heart warrior and i am so thankful for everything that this organization does!
