In June 2016 I lost one of the most important people in my life to heart disease, my mom. Emily Ann Boyd, known as Nee Nee to her grandchildren, passed away at the age of 63 to a massive heart attack, something that devastated her 4 adult children and 3 grandchildren. Heart disease has become one of the top killers of people in the US, and is becoming worse each year, especially among women. Heart disease in women is so different than it is for men, which is why it is important to know risk factors and symptoms.

I advocate with the Heart Association to tell others about heart disease by telling them my mom's story, in hopes that just one life can be saved. Heart Walk is a great way to get involved in the Heart Associations mission, and spread the word about heart healthy changes we can all make. I have done Heart Walk the past 3 years and I am looking forward to walking again this year, all in my mom's honor and memory.
