Please DONATE and/or WALK WITH ME in Raleigh on Sun. Sept 25th!!
*I'd like to thank Qiana Bradsher at Labcorp, my co-captain who has been so helpful getting our Teams up and running*
Here's why I am inspired to support the American Heart Association:
My father, Jawahar (Joe) Asirvatham, survived 7 years after his urgent open heart surgery due to the excellent cardiology care he received (thank you UNC Cardiology !). The American Heart Association promotes excellence in cardiovascular (CV) care since it promotes disease education, provides, CPR training, and funds CV research. ALL OF US have family or friends with heart disease, so ALL OF US have been postiviely impacted by the efforts of AHA.
Here are some of my friends' heart journeys that also inspire me...
At age 41, JOE, a 12-time marathon runner, suffered cardiac arrest during his sleep...a few weeks later he walked out of the hospital, and 2 years later he's enjoying life with his new wife and keeping up with his one month old son.
At age 31, TASHA was thrilled to have her first baby, only to find herself experiencing caridiac arrest then acute heart failure within a few days of childbirth...13 years later she and her daughter are both thriving and prioritize family life over everything else.
At age 49, BROOKS and his wife were on a double date bike ride with me and my husband, and we noticed he wasn't leaving us in his dust as usual...within a few days he learned an arrythmia was holding him back but soon after his procedure we are back to eating his dust on bike rides again.
At age 47, PAUL chalked up his growing fatigue during routine runs to getting old, but in a matter of weeks underwent urgent open heart surgery for repair of a newly diagnosed valve problem (that had been there nearly his entire life!)...5 years later he's feeling more fit than ever before.
At just 3 weeks old, my friend's newborn son ANDREW was diagnosed with an arrythmia (WPW Syndrome) and treated...now 16 years later his pacemaker ensures he runs circles around his opponents in soccer, basketball and track.
Anything you can donate helps, and hope you can join me at the walk for music, fun, and to see many Heart Heros walking along with us!
