As most of you know by now, my Mom underwent open heart surgery last Wednesday after finding out a little over a month ago that she had bicuspid aortic valve disease. For those of you like me who have very limited knowledge regarding the cardiovascular system, this is a congenital condition in which her bicuspid valve has two leaflets instead of three. This makes the heart work harder and results in calcification and a host of other issues. We are so thankful her MD made the quick diagnosis and surgery decision, so she could avoid any future complications. She was released from the hospital today and is recovering at home. We are so thankful she is okay, and there are surgeries to allow people like her life a long, healthy life. Which is why we are happy to support the AHA.
