15 years ago, my primary care Doctor, heard a murmur as she was performing my annual physical.  2 weeks later, my new to me Cardiologist discovered I had a Bicuspid Aortic valve.  A birth defect, that was discovered by accident.  Since that discovery I have had annual echocardiograms and other tests to determine when the valve will have to be replaced.  As the time for that replacement is getting sooner, I am extremely thankful for the all the advancements that have been made that will help me in recovery from this procedure.

Had I not discovered this when I did it likely would have developed into an emergency situation to address, versus the regular review  that I have annually.  

As a 50 plus year old male, I am seeing way too many of my friends and peers have heart attacks at our relatively young age.  This, coupled with my own issue, makes supporting AHA deeply personal for me.
