Hello from the Women's Center!
We are excited to share why we are walking and supporting the American Heart Association's Heart Walk as part of Karson's Crew. Karson, the baby of one our incredible NICU nurses, has already touched so many hearts with his strength and resilience.
Born with a congenital heart defect (CHD), Karson was rushed to the NICU immediately after birth. At just 7 days old, he underwent open heart surgery, and his chest remained open for 2 days as he began his recovery. Karson spent 3 weeks in the hospital-7 in the cardiac ICU, 7 more in step-down care, and through it all, his fighting spirit and the unwavering support of his family inspired us all.
Today, at 11 weeks old, Karson is thriving, and his journey is a testament to the courage of his family and the power of medical advancements. His parents and big sister have shown incredible strength, facing every challenge with love and determination.
Their story reminds us of the emotional and physical toll CHD takes on families, but also of the hope that comes with support, research, and community.
Did you know?
- CHD is the most common birth defect, affecting nearly 1 in 100 babies born in the U.S.
- Every 15 minutes a baby is born with CHD, and it remains a leading cause of infant death.
- Thanks to organizations like the American Heart Association, research and treatment options continue to improve, giving babies like Karson a fighting chance.
As a team, Karson's Crew is walking to honor his journey, celebrate his family's bravery, and support the critical work of the American Heart Association. We are fundraising and accepting donations to help fund life -saving research, education, and advocacy for families facing CHD. Every dollar makes a difference in the fight against heart disease and congenital heart defects.
Join us in walking for hope, for healing, and for every heart that beats against the odds. Together, we can ensure more families like Karson's have the support and resources they need.
Donate today, and help us make a lasting impact!
