At age 25, I was diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy after the birth of my son. It is an uncommon form of heart failure caused by pregnancy. At one point, I was told I would not live to see 30! I had en ejection fracture of 21%. I had to have a defibrillator placed.
Flash forward 28 years and thanks to the advances in medication, I now have an ejection fraction of 45% and I am thankful! I have enjoyed watching my son grow into the man he has become, because I was unsure I was going to have that opportunity.
