I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives. I walk because walking saved my own life.
At the age of 23 years old I was carried into the Emergency Department of my local hospital. After analyzing the pink foamy fluid that I had been coughing up, taking an echo, and analyzing my other labs, the on calll doctor finally came in to the room. What he said next changed my life forever "You have heart failure. Postpartum cardiomyopathy to be specific". I had a 2 week old baby at home and all I could think was, am I going to leave her motherless and my mom daughterless at just 23? Something must be wrong with the labs, I am too young for heart failure.
8 years later and I am here today thanks to quality care and groundbreaking research.
Your donation will fund the research that literally keeps hearts beating and helps people have longer, healthier lives. There needs to be more work done to determine root cause of post partum cardiomyopathy. I hope that you will consider donating to help save another mom, daughter, sister.
This year, as we celebrate the Centennial of the American Heart Association, we will move health and well-being forward in important and critical ways. This relentless pursuit will continue until heart disease and stroke no longer exist.
Have a heart and help me reach my goal today.
