Seven years ago, I was at work and received a call from my husband in a panic. He was crying and it was very difficult to understand him. He rarely connects with tears, even when it hurts, so this heightened my concern in an instant. His mother was in the hospital having recently sustained a heart attack. Her heart was repeatedly attacking and the doctors could not stop her heart from failing. I rushed to the hospital and as soon as I walked into the ICU, I heard the dreaded "code blue" over the intercom. I almost dropped to my knees in that moment because I knew, it was then, that she had left the physical world. It was as if she was waiting for me to arrive to leave.
This was one of the most devastating days of our lives. We had no idea that her heart would fail and that her arteries were mostly clogged. Sadly, I know that our story is not unique and that heart disease and stroke impacts millions. It is my hope that no other family has to endure such devastation again, and so not only do I walk in honor of her memory, but I also walk for all other families impacted by heart disease.
I am walking with a team of heart and mind heros, because together, we will change the world, one step at a time. Please consider donating to help fund groundbreaking research that will keep hearts beating and help people enjoy longer, healthier lives.
We need you.
Sending heartfelt gratitude to you! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart and in honor of my late mother-in-law Sue Nelson.
