I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives.
We're all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way. We have to change that. Will you help me?
My personal connection to heart disease started in 2022 when my son was 2. He was breath holding nearly everyday when he was hurt or upset and the pediatrician wasn't overly concerned about it, assuring me that he would outgrow it. I decided to seek the opinion of a pediatric cardiologist who performed an echo on him due to the frequency of events. It was discovered that he has a bicuspic aortic valve, which was an incidental finding. He has since outgown the breath holding and his heart is monitored yearly. Being that I am a nurse in cardiac surgery, I am thankful that we had the tools and resources to detect his defect early so he can be safely followed and managed!
