April 3, 2016 was a day I will never forget. I was at the Jelly Belly Factory in Pleasant Prairie with my kids and our new exchange student. They were waiting in line for the tour and I decided to hang in the gift shop. I suddenly felt some strange pressure and nauseated, as time passed it was getting more uncomfortable and I began to sweat. I walked outside thinking I needed some air~~I decided that I needed to call 911 and within minutes I was being transported to St. Catherine's Hospital in Kenosha, with an EKG confirming the worst. The next 30 minutes were intense and the EMTs prepared me for what would be happening. I had what they now believe was a SCAD
What Is SCAD?
Unlike a more typical heart attack caused by a rupture of plaque in the arteries, a SCAD heart attack starts with a tear in the wall of an otherwise normal artery. The tear tunnels within the wall of the artery, and its effect blocks the artery and blood flow to the heart muscles, leading to a heart attack. Although SCAD causes a small percentage of heart attacks overall, it’s responsible for 40% of heart attacks in women under the age of 50. And it mostly happens to women -- more than 90% of SCAD patients are female. * I saved my own life by knowing the signs and calling for help. I walk for myself, my children and all those that suffer from Heart Disease. ❤❤❤❤ And now in honor of my Mom who suffered a stroke❤❤❤
