It was a normal Sunday morning.
I woke up early to play with my son, Rocco. He was super excited as we built an awesome mini track for his mini cars and trucks to race on. I could've never imagined what awaited me and my family later that afternoon...
The crazy thing is that I never had a heart issue a day before in my life! I eat healthy (my wife makes me) and stay active. I have no family history of heart issues. I don't smoke and don't really drink too often.
I had ZERO risk factors for Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
But despite all of that, I went from playing with my son on the floor in the morning to laying lifeless on the floor that same afternoon...
Ventricle Fibrillation. Sudden Cardiac Death.
CPR started just in time. Intubated on the spot and rushed to the ER. 48 Hours of therapeutic hypothermia...
90% of people who experience what I did that day, die. Out of the 10% that live only 1% survive with no brain damage.
But somehow, even despite the statistics being completely stacked against me, I came back knowing that I was in the hospital because of my heart and quoting Eddie Murphy from The Nutty Professor: "Hercules, Hercules!!".
I am a walking miracle and it is only by the grace of God that I still have breath in my lungs today! One of the reasons I am still here today is to share this story with as many people as possible to offer hope and perspective to anyone who is struggling to find it.
