After overcoming a stroke and craniotomy surgery (brain surgery) at the age of 39 years old, I walk because I know that with every step, I am saving lives. I am not only a stroke survivor but I'm an advocate for stroke patients, survivors, and caregivers.
Strokes can happen to anyone, at any age. Having a stroke puts you at higher risk for a second one. So staying physically active for 30 minutes most days of the week is a heart-healthy choice.
It was during my first American Heart Association walk in 2023 that motivated me to join the 2024 Knuckles Health Education Services, LLC team as a coach. Last year's walk is where I met Donulae Knuckles of Team Nurse Knuckles Nation and decided to join Knuckles Health Education Services, LLC. The team was on fire and showed so much enthusiasm that it convinced me to join the 2024 Team Nurse Knuckles Nation. So of course I felt compelled to search for Donulae on social media to find out more information about this amazing team. Intrigued by the impact Nurse Knuckles is contributing to the community, she trained and certified me as a First Aid/CPR/ AED Instructor. As a trained survivor, I'm excited to educate and equipped to train another survivor. She is now my forever stroke sister and our mission is to empower, educate, and inspire other stroke survivors to let them know that there is life after a stroke.
We're all tied to heart disease and stroke in some way. We have to change that. Will you help me?
