When my son was born, we were first time parents, nervous to take care of a little guy already. Several hours after he was born, my husband and I decided to have the baby sleep in the nursery so that I can get myself together. After a while, I had already missed our little guy and wanted to bring him back. I went to the nursery and asked to see my son, but I was told, I couldn’t at the time. I asked, “why not?” and they wouldn’t tell me. I went back to our room and made my husband go to the nursery and bring my son back. I waited and waited….Couple hours later, my husband calls the room and asked that I get ready to leave. Yes, ready to leave the hospital and transfer to another hospital in order to see a cardiologist right away. Our lives changed forever!
Within 24 hours, we found out that our little guy needed open heart surgery right away. We understand the outcome would have been the same but early detection of his condition would have better prepared all of us when he did arrive. My husband and I made one simple decision that saved our son without us ever known he was not okay. What if we didn't make that decision? What if the nurses in the nursery didn’t see my son’s oxygen level was dropping? What if
What if we looked at his heart and veins during all those ultrasounds, what if...That is what we are fighting for!!!
