We Walk to Save Lives!

Bella Cooper, now 11 years old, was diagnosed with a heart murmur just two days after her birth. Following a thorough evaluation that included a cardiology consultation, EKG, and echocardiogram, she was found to have a significant Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). At her one-month follow-up appointment with the cardiology team at Cincinnati Children's Medical Center (CCHMC), Bella was further diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot. This complex condition encompasses the VSD, an atrial septal defect (ASD), an overriding aorta, pulmonary valve stenosis, and hypoplasia of the pulmonary artery.

Bella is a true heart warrior. At six months old, she underwent extensive open-heart surgery at CCHMC to correct her congenital heart defect. Today, she is full of life and has participated in the Heart Mini for the past seven years. This event has been a constant source of encouragement and support throughout Bella's heart journey. Thanks to the research and resources provided by the American Heart Association (AHA), Bella has received the care she needed for a second chance at life. Each year, as she participates in the Heart Mini, Bella has developed a passion for running and enjoys teaching others about maintaining heart health.

As Bella's mother, I have made it my mission to organize a team in her honor each year, supporting the research and funding initiatives of the AHA. Without the life-saving surgery that Bella received, we would not be able to cherish her vibrant presence today.
