9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this. ​ I am one of the 1 in 10 who survived.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death. ​ For me it happened at soccer, and I was lucky enough to have a CPR instructor and CPR-certified friends nearby at the time. Everyone acted as organized and efficient as possible, contating EMS, doing compressions, and applying the AED all of which all allowed me to make a full recovery.
