This is our beautiful daughter, Jayla who is also the face of heart failure! Nearly 17 months ago our lives were forever changed after Jayla went into sudden end stage heart failure. After months of various testing, it was discovered that Jayla was born with 2 different congenital heart conditions- left ventricle non-compaction cardiomyopathy and a left bundle branch blockage. Neither of these conditions can be surgically repaired, which meant Jayla needed a bi-ventricular pacemaker implanted given her high risk of "sudden cardiac death"-3 words no parent wants to hear about their child. Jayla had her pacemaker implanted on November 12, 2024, and in just 3 months, her heart function miraculously improved to nearly 80%! We are SO grateful to still have our girl with us!
The American Heart Association has been a great support not only to Jayla and our family, but to cardiology patients across the country. The resources and fundraising they do to help raise awareness and support advances create more survivors every day! It is an honor and privilege to walk with her and other survivors on October 4th!!
