As crazy as this sounds, my stroke saved my life! I had a hemorrhagic stroke on 11/20/24 at 51 years old. This was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me and I realize how truly lucky I am to even be here let alone participate in a 5K! I made many mistakes when it came to managing my health in the past, and I have made it my mission to learn from those mistakes and encourage everyone I love to take care of themselves!
I am so grateful to my family and friends for being so thoughtful, supportive, and devoted to me and my recovery. I surely would not be here today if it wasn't for so many special people in my life. My sons Brandon and Tyler immediately came to my rescue! Brandon, being a Firefighter/Paramedic, knew exactly what to do and got me to Community Hospital immediately! Heidi has pulled out all the stops to ensure I am healthy physically and mentally. My Mom and Tony were there for me unconditionally driving me to all my follow-up appointments and being constantly present, Cayla, Alyssa, Samantha, Glenn, Jeanne, and my friends who I consider family have all rallied around me to encourage my transformation and have continued to provide all the love and support a guy could ever dream of! I have had the most amazing medical team at Powers Health (doctors, nurses, physical therapists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, dieticians, etc.) and I couldn't be more grateful for each and every one! Doing this 5k is one way I can feel like I am giving back, and I would be honored for each and every one of you to join us!
9 out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. But we can change this.
Cardiac arrests happen at work, in homes, on athletic fields and in neighborhoods everywhere, and the readiness of our community can be the difference between life and death.
It's time to unite, take action, and save lives. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
I Walk to Save Lives. Help me reach my goal today by joining our team or donating towards our goal. Together, we can turn bystanders into lifesavers.
